Hyophorbe lagenicaulis is a rare and ornamental palm tree from the
Mascarene Islands of Mauritius and Renion. Hyophorbe lagenicaulis is commonly known as the
Champagne Palm because of the Champagne bottle shape of its beautiful trunk when it is
a mature palm tree.
The Champagne Palm is relatively slow growing. This palm enjoys full sun even from a quite young age,
requires constant watering, and doesn't respond well to cold.
Hyophorbe lagenicaulis is almost extinct in the wild and is said to have become reduced to a single
population on Round Island. Champagne Palm seeds take a long time to ripen but germinate quite easily
after about three to six months.
