Arenga hookeriana occurs naturally in southern Thailand and northern peninsular Malaysia.
It's small clumping species, about 3 feet high in habitat and the local Thai people suspect that
the larger forms have been collected. A clump may reach 6 feet high and wide. The leaves are 1 to 2 feet long and 9 up to 10 inches wide.
The Arenga hookeriana is adapted to zones 10 and 11. It requires at least partial shade, especially in hot climates,
but grows in a range of well-drained soils.
Arenga hookeriana is an excellent choice for a protected, partially shaded patio, as a specimen along a path,
and as a large groundcover. It's hard to imagine a finer container plant. Indoors it needs good light and good air circulation.
